 Personal statement of Dr Fasunla Ayotunde James

I began my career in Otorhinolaryngology in 2002 at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan and subsequently had further training in rhinology and head & neck oncology surgery at the Philipps University, Marburg, Germany where I obtained an academic degree of Doctor of Human Medicine (MD) in 2011. I currently work as an academic researcher at the University of Ibadan. I am also involved in the teaching and training of medical students, dental students, resident doctors, and other health care professionals in otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery.  I hold an honorary consultant position at the university College Hospital, Ibadan. My clinical work is in general otorhinolaryngology with special interests in rhinology, head & neck oncology surgery and audiology. Since the inception of my career, I have been involved in scientific researches across the field of general otorhinolaryngology and currently investigating the effects of maternal HIV infection and antiretroviral medications on the hearing integrity of HIV-exposed newborns. I am also investigating the hearing, olfaction and gustation of HIV infected adults.
