Prof. Ademola J. AJUWON
Professor Ademola Ajuwon holds a Bachelors of Science (BSc) degree in Sociology from the University of Lagos in 1984, Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Promotion and Education from the University of Ibadan in 1990 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health Education at the same university in 2000. He is a Professor in the Department of Health Promotion and Education where he teaches Health Communication and Ethics of Public Health Research and Practice. His areas of research interests are adolescent reproductive health, prevention of sexual violence and capacity development on research ethics.
He has won several local and international scholarship, fellowships and honours including the College of Medicine University of Ibadan Research Scholarship in 1999, the Federal Government of Nigeria Postgraduate scholarship in 1987, the Cleveland International Program 1994, Visiting Scholarship, Center for AIDS Prevention Studies, University of California, San Francisco, USA in 1997, the Postdoctoral Fellowship, International Research Ethics Program, Bioethics Institute, Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, 2003, the Wellcome Trust Travel Fellowship, in 2005 and the German Education Exchange Fellowship (DAAD) in 2012.
Prof. Ajuwon has received 15 major research grants and served as the Principal Investigator of nine of these grants. The funding agencies that have provided the grants are the World Health organization, The World AIDS Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Rockefeller Foundation, the British Council, United Nations Fund for Women and The Wellcome Trust.
He has more than sixty publications many of which have appeared in peer-review journals including the Bulletin of the World Health Organization, PLos Medicine, Biomed Central Public Health, Reproductive Health Matters, African Journal of Reproductive Health, Health Education Research and the International Quarterly of Community Health Education. He has supervised over 30 MPH dissertations, two PhD theses and served as External Examiner to Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun state, and the University of Kwazulu Natal, Durban South Africa.
