Personal Statement

Oluyemisi F.Folasire is a Physician for sixteen years with special interest in Human Nutrition.  She started her career with a BSc degree in Human Nutrition, which gave her focus in her medical training and informed her choice of postgraduate medical training in Family Medicine. With Family practice, she can influence nutrition of her patients across generations. Her current research focus is on Nutrition and HIV/AIDS, Cancer prevention, Quality of life and obesity treatment and prevention. With her work in the field of HIV and nutrition she has contributed publications on the quality of life and nutrition assessment tools to aid prompt diagnosis of malnutrition in adult HIV positive persons in Nigeria.  She has also being working in the area of Nutrition in Cancer prevention and survival, with emphasis on Nutrition education especially amongst the adolescents and youths in Nigeria.

In the year 2010, she established and co-manages the “Family Nutrition Clinic” a weight management outfit at the Family Medicine Department, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Where emphasis on Obesity management is Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) as a tool in patient management. Her other interest lies in Nutrigenomics/Nutrigenesis as a tool in clinical and public health nutrition care of patients, with the view of reducing the burden of Non communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Nigerians and Africans in general.
