Mr. Oluwaseun ARIYO

Personal Statement

Dr Oluwaseun Ariyo holds B.Sc. (Human Nutrition), M.Sc. (Human Nutrition), and Ph.D. (Public Health Nutrition) degrees from University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. He is presently a lecturer in the Department of Human Nutrition, Faculty of Public Health, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. He has worked as a Programme Officer (Nutrition) at the Food Basket Foundation International, Ibadan, Programme Officer (Pre-Degree) at the Centre for Distance Learning, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and Lecturer, Department of Food Science and Technology, Wesley University of Science and Technology, Ondo. He has participated in a number of researches and field works in diverse areas of nutrition and public health and skilled in planning, implementation and evaluation of nutrition and health programmes. His current research interests include school health and nutrition, agriculture and nutrition linkages and nutrition of the vulnerable groups. His research goal is to contribute to the development and transfer of skills and practices that promote good nutritional status and reduce risks of diet-related non-communicable diseases among the nutritionally vulnerable groups especially older people, infants and young children, adolescents and people living with disabilities. He is particularly inclined to identify existing indigenous skills and practices which can be encouraged, promoted and sustained to achieve nutritional and health benefits in both long and short terms. Also, he has interests in programmes and community activities that transcend the agriculture and public health sectors to address nutrition and related behaviour practices. He has more than 10 publications in national and international reputable journals. He has served as a consultant to organizations such as Helen Keller International, Food Basket Foundation International, among others. He is a member of some professional associations including Nutrition Society of Nigeria, Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology, African Nutrition Society (Membership No.: ANS-14-248) and Nutrition Society, United Kingdom (Membership No.: 120570988). He has won few honours including African Nutrition Leadership Fellowship, Africa Research Excellence Fund Fellowship, Nutrition Society, UK Travel Grant and MASHAV (Israel) Scholarship. Currently, he serves as the postgraduate programme coordinator in the Department of Human Nutrition, honorary Coach to University of Ibadan Chess team and member of Nutrition Society of Nigeria Education Committee. He loves networking, reading, writing, and playing Chess.
