BOLUWATIFE IKWUNNE, 2021 RHODES SCHOLAR ELECT VISITS PROVOST'S OFFICE

Dr. Boluwatife Ikwunne, the 2021 Rhodes Scholar Elect visited the Office of the Provost, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan on Monday 7 December 2020.

Boluwatife was received by the Provost, Professor Olayinka Omigbodun, the Deputy-Provost, Professor Fatai Adeniyi, the Secretary to the College-Dr. IkeOluwapo Moody, the Financial Controller, Mrs Oluwafolakemi Ajayi and the Acting Medical Librarian- Dr. Grace Ajuwon.

The Provost in her welcome remarks congratulated the 2021 Rhodes Scholar Elect noting that she had always been known for excellence as showcased in her performance in the Psychiatry final examinations in which she received a distinction grade, the first in a clinical subject in several years.

The Deputy Provost while congratulating Boluwatife informed her that her feat was being celebrated across several Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association (ICOMAA) chatrooms worldwide. He thanked her for bringing honour to the College of Medicine and wished her the very best in her academic pursuits.

In her response, Boluwatife appreciated her family, friends and teachers for their immense support through the years. She also thanked the Department of Psychiatry for fueling her love for the field and acknowledged the series of events that led to her interest in Neuroscience.

She specifically appreciated the Provost, a Professor of Psychiatry who without knowing it, had fanned her interest in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health.

Dr. Boluwatife Ikwunne, MBBS, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Class of 2019, with a Distinction in Psychiatry was one of the two Rhodes Scholar Elects for 2021 out of 2,632 applicants from 17 African countries.

Elizabeth Nwarueze, the other Scholar Elect is also a graduate of University of Ibadan from the Faculty of Law, 2018 set.

Boluwatife Ikwunne is daughter to Dr. Olukorede Ikwunne (nee Badmus) of the 1988 MBBS Graduating set in the College of Medicine.

The Rhodes Scholarship Programme established in 1903 is the oldest and one of the most prestigious International Scholarship programmes in the world. Administered by the Rhodes Trust at Oxford, the programme offers 100 fully-funded Scholarships each year for Postgraduate Study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
