On Tuesday, 13 October, 2020 the Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Professor Olayinka Olusola Omigbodun FAS, FNAMed received a delegation of the Faculty of Psychiatry of the West African College of Physicians (WACP) led by Professor Roger Makanjuola, the Internal Assessor at the ongoing professional examination of the Faculty being held at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

The President of the Faculty, Professor Taiwo Lateef Sheikh introduced members of the delegation while he also stated the purpose of the visit. Prof. Sheikh said that the delegation decided to pay a courtesy call on the Provost to congratulate her for her recent election and appointment by the Governing Council of University of Ibadan as the 12th and first female Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, a position she assumed on 1 August, 2020.

Professor Roger Makanjuola applauded the Provost for her exemplary style of leadership which has continually projected the image of WACP over the years, particularly in the Faculty of Psychiatry. Professor Makanjuola pointed out that Prof. Omigbodun who had previously served as Chief Examiner in the Faculty, has contributed immensely to the development of the Faculty and that she is a vibrant member of the Professional body.

In her response, the Provost expressed her unreserved delight towards the honour bestowed on her by the delegation. She particularly recognised Professor Roger Makanjuola whom she described as a distinguished member of the Faculty as well as an icon and a dependable repos log in Psychiatry and Mental Health Sciences. The Provost also recognised the presence of other members of the delegation. In her comments, she pointed out some key areas that required focus and urgent attention which include:

       More works for the Psychiatrists in order to be duly recognised for accreditation purpose.

       Issue of brain drain to be holistically addressed by the Government.

The Deputy Provost, Prof. Fatai Adeniyi in his remarks expressed delight over his physical meeting with the leader of the delegation, Prof. Roger Makanjuola for the first time. He saluted his resilience for his roles at providing strong leadership, membership and training for WACP. While praying that he would live long to make more impact.

Also present during the visit were: Prof. Peter O. Ajiboye, Prof. James Obinda, Dr. Jubril Abdulmalik, Dr. Alfred B. Makanjuola, Dr. Emeka Nwefoh, Dr. Ndukuba Appolos, Dr. Chidozie Chukwujekum and Richard Uwakwe.
