PROFESSOR ELIZABETH B. DOSUMU BIODATA
Professor Elizabeth Bosede DOSUMU was born on 18th January 1960 in Ilorin to Papa Thomas Oladeinde FATUDIMU of the royal family of Ajifolokun Idiaragba, Ijebu Jesha and Deaconess Grace Bolaji FATUDIMU whose mother was from the Arimoro royal family of Ilesha and her father from the Atobatele royal family of Ijebu Ijesa.
She had her elementary primary education at United Missionary School, Zuru, Kebbi State and St Barnabas Anglican Primary School, Ilorin from 1966 to 1972. She then proceeded to St. Clare’s Girls’ Grammar School Offa, Kwara in 1972 for her secondary education.
She had her Advanced Level Education at Queens’ School Ibadan/Government College Ibadan from 1976 to 1978 and her undergraduate studies at University of Ibadan where she bagged the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1986.
Following this, she had her mandatory housemanship program at Oyo State Hospital Management Board from 1986 to 1987, after which she was posted to the Dental Center Military Hospital, Odogbo, Ojoo, Ibadan for her mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from 1987 to 1988.
Having worked at a private Dental Clinic ( Stadium Dental Services, Liberty Road, Ibadan ) as a dental officer from 1989 to 1993, she proceeded for her residency program at the University College Hospital and became a fellow of the National Postgraduate College of Nigeria (FMCDS) in Periodontology in 1999. She also had the Doctor of Medicine (MD) of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 2022.
Professor Elizabeth Dosumu joined the services of the University of Ibadan, College of Medicine, Department of Preventive Dentistry, Periodontology unit in 2000 as Lecturer I, Senior Lecturer in 2004, Reader in 2015 and Professor of Periodontology in 2019.
Professor Elizabeth Dosumu is a member of several international and national professional bodies such as the British Society of Periodontology (BSP), Pan Dental Society, European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), Italian Society of Periodontology, Belgium Society of Periodontology, International Association for Dental Research (IADR), Periodontal Association of Nigeria (PAN), Nigerian Medical Association, Nigerian Dental Association and Medical Women Association of Nigeria.
She attended the annual and biannual conferences of these societies where she presented papers at the EFP conference at Vienna in 2013 and the Italian Society of Periodontology conferences at Rimini & Torino in 2016 and 2017.
She was a foundation member of the International Association For Halitosis Research (IAFHR) founded at the EFP 9 conference in Amsterdam in 2018.
As a member of BSP, she was nominated into the membership of the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Nigeria round table committee on Dentine Hypersensitivity. She presented GSK Public Lecture titled: National Survey of Dentine Hypersensitivity & Severity of Periodontal Diseases Among Nigerians at the Annual Scientific Conference and All Fellows’ Congress (ASCAF) of National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria on 24th May 2016.
Professor Elizabeth Dosumu has collaborated with other scholars to publish over 60 articles in reputable peer reviewed journals. She has taught as a visiting scholar to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and she has served as external examiner to many Dental Schools in Nigeria till date.
She is happily married to Professor Oluwole Oyekunle Dosumu (Senior Prof D) of the Department of Restorative Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry , University of Ibadan and their union is blessed with very lovely children.
