Professor Kehinde Sola Akinlade was born on the 19th of December, 1953, in Ondo town to the esteemed family of Chief James Morakinyo Akinlade Fajemirokun and Chief (Mrs.) Mary Olayosade Akinlade. His educational journey commenced at St Peter’s Primary School, Aremo, Ibadan, followed by Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti, and Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos State, where he completed his Higher School Certificate in 1972.
In 1972, he embarked on his medical education at the University of Benin, graduating with an MB; BS Degree in 1978. His commitment to academic excellence led him to obtain the Fellowship of the Nigerian Postgraduate Medical College of Physicians (FMCP) in 1988. He furthered his studies with a Certificate in Immunology from the University of Ibadan in 1998.
Professor Akinlade's international experience includes a Fellowship at Guys Hospital, London Bridge, London, between 1987 and 1988, as a Fellow of the European Economic Community Research. He also served as a Research Fellow at Immunometrics Ltd, UK, from 2006 to 2007.
His professional journey includes appointments as a Consultant Endocrinologist and Lecturer I at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital/University of Ilorin in 1989. Over the years, he has held various positions, including Clinical Head and Acting Head of the Department of Chemical Pathology at the University College Hospital and University of Ibadan. In 2018, he became a Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, where he also served as the Head of the Department, Chairman of the University Staff Disciplinary Committee, and Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies.
Professor Akinlade's research in endocrinology, particularly in insulin resistance and associated metabolic diseases, has resulted in over 70 publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals. He is a respected member of several professional and academic societies, including the Nigerian Medical Association, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, Endocrinology and Metabolism Society of Nigeria, Diabetes Association of Nigeria, Diabetes UK (British Diabetic Association), and the Association of Clinical Chemists of Nigeria (ACCN).
Professor Akinlade is happily married to Mrs. Grace Funmilola Akinlade, and their union is blessed with three great men and wonderful grandchildren.
The valedictory programme is not only a celebration of his academic accomplishments but also a tribute to the legacy of a dedicated educator, researcher, and medical practitioner.
