40 by 40: ICOMAA CLASS OF 82 UNVEILS AGENDA AT ANNIVERSARY REUNION LECTURE
The Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Class of 1982 has donated the sum of Forty Million Naira (#40,000,000) towards the building project of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI) Students' Hostel in commemoration of the 40th Anniversary of their graduation and induction into the medical profession.
The event took place on Thursday, 27 October 2022 at the B.O.Osuntokun Auditorium, CoMUI. The 40th Anniversary Reunion lecture titled "Medicine as a Business, Investor's Perspective" was delivered by the CEO & Co-Founder of Afya Care-Cornell University, Mr. Kola Oni, under the distinguished chairmanship of Prof. Dapo Ladipo.Three other speakers, Dr. Leke Oshuniyi, Dr Ngozi Onyia, and Dr. Dupe Obilanade, who are members of the class set, also shared their perspectives on the topic.
The Set Coordinator, Prof. Folasade Akinsola, on behalf of the 82 Class made the donation after the welcome address delivered by the Chairman of the Anniversary Local Organising Committee (LOC), Dr. Dayo Gbadebo-Saba.
The Host of the event, the Provost, CoMUI, Prof. Olayinka Omigbodun, who was unavoidably absent but represented by her Deputy, Prof. A. F. Adeniyi thanked the Class of 82 for their support over the years and their generous donation. He appreciated all other Alumni groups and individuals who have given towards the Students' Hostel Project. He disclosed that over #2.5B will be needed for the proposed Students' Hostel.
Speaking at the occasion, the President of the Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association World Wide (ICOMAA WW), Prof. E. O. Otolorin applauded the Class of 82 for deeming it fit to give back to their Alma-Mata in a time like this. He encouraged the Alumni, philanthropists, corporate organizations and well-meaning Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora to also support other laudable on-going projects such as the Sponsor A Student project,among others.
The Co-Host of the event, the Chief Medical Director, University College Hospital (UCH), Prof. J.A. Otegbayo represented by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Abiodun Adeoye, congratulated the distinguished alumni for the privilege to be alive to witness such a landmark celebration. He said it is a beautiful thing to invest in healthcare as it pays to save lives and encouraged them to also reach out to the hospital in their support.
Dignitaries too numerous to list graced the occasion. Among those who added colour to the day were the celebrants' teachers, grand-teachers and mentors, such as; Prof. Ayodele Falase, Prof. Oyin Olurin, Prof. Adeuja, Prof & Prof (Mrs) Osinusi, Prof. & Prof. (Mrs) Onadeko among others.
The event witnessed activities such as Distinguished Teachers Awards, Distinguished Speakers’ Awards, Goodwill Messages and Reminiscences. The grand event was anchored by Prof. Abiodun Adeyinka and Dr. Faye Iketuboyin while Dr. Adie Ekanem gave the vote of thanks.
