COLLEGE OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN (CoMUI) IN THE 2022 ALPER-DOGER (AD) SCIENTIFIC INDEX RANKINGS: SUSTAINING A RICH TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE

Continuous evaluation and the increasing use of scientific metrics is an integral component of benchmarking progress over time for academic and research institutions as well as an opportunity to compare with peers.

The AD Scientific Index (Alper-Doger Scientific Index) is increasingly gaining prominence for its comprehensive assessment of research scientists, journals and universities. It deploys a ranking and analysis system based on the scientific performance of individual researchers, and subsequently derives its ranking of institutions based on the cumulative ratings of her affiliated scientists. Thus, it is a robust measure of productivity and impact of research output.

University of Ibadan Ranking

The 2022 AD Scientific Index ranking places the University of Ibadan as number 1 in Nigeria; number 14 in Africa and at number 1038 out of a total of 15,421 Universities across the world, placing it in the top 7% of global universities. This is certainly a laudable feat and we are very proud of our University. It is especially noteworthy that the best scientist in the country remains Prof Oye Gureje, NNOM, DSc and this has been the situation for several years now.

Challenge and Call to Action

The College Management under my watch, will continue to support and nurture the culture of academic excellence via the recruitment of brilliant academic staff, capacity building and mentorship for younger academics. We should not rest on our oars but strive to improve even further in the years to come.

If we can achieve so much despite the daunting challenges, we can surpass expectations if work conditions improve. On behalf of the College Management, I congratulate our excellent scholars, even as we challenge you all to do more. I also congratulate the leading PIs. There are several challenges but TOGETHER we will overcome and do great things TOGETHER.
