I heartily welcome you to the website of Faculty of Dentistry, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s leading dental school, in patient care, teaching (academics) and research, contributing to the health of the Nigerian populace.
We are proud to be part of College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, the oldest and the highest ranked Medical College in Nigeria and in West Africa, as well as 4th in Africa, according to the Times Higher Education, 2020, World University Rankings. The Dental School facility is part of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan edifice, the best, well equipped, largest and most spacious tertiary health care institution in Nigeria, with outpatient clinic attendance beyond 200,000 per year.
The dental facility is situated on a 4-acre land 20 minutes’ drive from the University of Ibadan campus. The clinic area occupies more than 15,000sq metres of floor space, accommodating a reception, large clinics for each of the dental specialties, 6 laboratories including a big phantom head laboratory, a lecture theatre, 2 lecture halls, record office, a pharmacy and a surgical suite (minor theatre, recovery room, sterilizing room and a nurses station/office). The facility has a well-equipped implantology centre, the 1st in West Africa.
The Faculty prides itself in its Robust community Dentistry programme with well-equipped primary health care clinics (at Idikan and Igboora, Ibarapa community) and a vibrant oral health outreach programme to underserved communities.
Our students have access to University of Ibadan Library System (main University Library (Kenneth Dike), E-Latunde Odeku Medical Library, various College libraries, Faculty libraries including Faculty of Dentistry library and departmental libraries.
The Latunde Odeku Medical Library is well stocked and has up to date information technology library system. It was designated WHO National Focal Point (NFP) in Nigeria in 1983, earning it the reputation of a National Medical Library.
The first in Nigeria to introduce the integrated medical and dental curriculum, our strength lies in the sound knowledge and foundation in general medicine as well as acquisition of excellent professional skills in dental sciences of our graduates.
It offers curricula leading to a degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and Masters Degree in Dental Sciences (MDS) as well as participates in specialty training to Registrars at the University College Hospital, for the fellowship examinations of West Africa College of Surgeons and National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
The current enrolment stands at undergraduate 212, postgraduate 10and specialty registrars 84.
The Faculty of Dentistry is endowed with a team of highly qualified, clinically skilled and research oriented academic and non-academic staff as well as committed and skilled support staff, providing the warm intellectual environment required for excellent performance of our students.
