Biography:

Dr. Chizoma Millicent Ndikom is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of  Nursing, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (education) as well as a Master of Science Degree in Nursing, specializing in Maternal and Child Health Nursing and Master of Science degree in Sociology (Medical)and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Nursing. Professionally, she is a Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife, Registered Nurse Educator, Registered Occupational Health Nurse and a Fellow of the West African College of Nursing. She teaches maternal and child health nursing and reproductive health at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. She has served as a Post Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Nursing, University of Ibadan. She has served as an External Examiner at various nursing programs. She has an interest in ways of reducing maternal and child mortality through research and plays lots of roles in enhancing the quality of nursing education and improving women’s health and care of the child bearing family. Her research focuses on prevention and early detection of cervical cancer through screening in order to reduce cancer mortality among women. She is a member of Cochrane Collaboration,pregnancy and childbirth group; Oncology Nursing Society; Sigma Teta Tau (Honors Society of Nursing), African Organization for Research &Training in Cancer (AORTIC) among others. She is a scholar participating in the Nigerian Cancer Research Training (NCAT) program sponsored by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s Global Cancer Disparities Initiatives (GCDI) Program (USA), and the African Research Group for Oncology (ARGO-Nigeria). She has  functioned as a Principal Investigator in various researches and have published a systematic review and other peer reviewed articles. Duties include Teaching of Undergraduate students, Supervision of the students’ research project and care study, General Administrative duties and Research, Clinical teaching of students and clients.

1. Title: The ISNCC Breast Aware train the trainer programme
Funder: Union for International Cancer Control(UICC/ Internation Society for Nurses in Cancer Care(ISNCC)
Brief Summary: The ISNCC Breast Aware train the trainer programme aims to equip nurses in Africa with the knowledge and skills necessary to educate nurses in their communities about breast examination, Breast cancer detection risk factors of breast cancer and nurse leadership.The aim of this research of the the educational train the trainer package in improving the nurses comptence in early diagnosis of breast cancer in sub Saharan Africa. This manual provides guidance on how to train nurses to deliver the programme in their communities. The programme consists of four modules, each approximately one hour in duration.The coverage is five counties in Africa including Nigeria. The study involved Focus group discussion, Pretest, Intervention and post test.

2. Title: Evaluating the efficacy of Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) as an assessment tool for health care professions students in sub-Saharan Africa: a mixed method study
Funder: AFREhealth under Funding Support for Health Professions Inter-professional Research and Education in African Institutions from NIH Grant 5R25TW011217-0
Brief Summary: The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is widely used as a gold standard for evaluating clinical skills of health care professions students. However, there is an ongoing debate about its effectiveness compared to other assessment methods. This study aims to assess the efficacy of OSCE as an assessment tool for health care professions students in Sub-Saharan Africa, where resource constraints and challenges in clinical training are common. The study will employ a convergent parallel mixed method research design and will be conducted in selected healthcare professions training institutions from selected countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Quantitative data will be collected using an adapted questionnaire, and qualitative data will be gathered through focus group discussions and key informants. The institutions and countries include Mzuzu University in Malawi; Busitema University in Uganda; University of Zambia; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana and University of Ibadan in Nigeria. The study will compare the perceptions of health care professions students and examiners towards OSCE and other evaluation methods.

3. Title: Outcome of Integrating cervical cancer screening information into post natral services in Ibadan , Nigeria.
Funder: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC)’s Global Cancer Disparities Initiatives (GCDI) Program (USA)
Brief Summary: Combating mortality from cancer has remained major global challenge. Cervical cancer is one of the cancers in this category but can be prevented or reversed through early detection measures. Many developing countries like Nigeria do not have structured National Cervical Cancer screening programme thus most of the women reported report late with advanced disease. This implementation research seeks to integrate cervical cancer screening information and services into postnatal services. Integrating cervical cancer screening information into postnatal services may proffer a sustainable knowledge as well as utilisation of screening services.
