IBADAN MEDICAL SPECIALISTS GROUP - UNITED KINGDOM (IMSG -UK) DONATES SOLAR ENERGY TO DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY, COLLEGE OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN

The Provost, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI), Professor T. O.  Ogundiran, FAS has commended the Ibadan Medical Specialists Group - United Kingdom (IMSG - UK) on the donation of alternative power supply to the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences of the College.

The Provost, who was represented by Professor T. A. Lawal (Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences) thanked the IMSG-UK ably led by Dr. Bode Williams (President, IMSG - UK) for their unflinching support over the years. He acknowledged this most recent benefaction on Wednesday November 6, 2024 at the IMSG - UK Symposium 2024 themed: Strengthening Primary Care Services in Nigeria. The event was attended by the CoMUI management team, representatives of the IMSG -UK, students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the CoMUI and the University College Hospital (UCH) and members of the press.

Aside the benevolence of the IMSG - UK as shown through the launch of solar power at the Anatomy Department on Tuesday November 5, 2024, the management of CoMUI recalled that the group made possible in 2023, the renovation of the venue of the event; the Paul Hendrickse Lecture Theatre. In addition, IMSG-UK has been very active in supporting the Global Sponsor A Student Programme (GSASP) which was inaugurated by the immediate past administration of the College. Professor Ogundiran applauded the Ibadan Medical Specialists Group - UK for their unwavering support to the CoMUI's progress in diverse ways over the years. 

The hybrid event which attracted guest speakers from Nigeria and the diaspora covered a wide range of insightful issues of great importance. The Honorable Commissioner for Health, Oyo State, Nigeria, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetumobi, represented by Dr. Babatunde Akintunde, the State Director of Public Health, spoke on the topic Primary care Initiatives in Oyo State. Another lecture delivered by Dr. Bunmi Abodunde, Consultant Primary Healthcare Physician, UCH, Ibadan, focused on Primary Care Challenges in Ibadan and Solutions.

Further in the discourse, Associate Professor Oladejo Olaleye, Consultant ENT/Heads & Neck/Robotic Surgeon, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, UK, engaged the audience on the topic- Human Papillomavirus Vaccination in the Prevention of Cervical, Genital and Oropharyngeal Cancers. Also noteworthy was the lecture entitled Sexual Health and Contraception delivered by Dr. Tonye Wokoma, Consultant in Sexual & Reproductive Health and Community Gynaecology, Kingston Upon Hull, UK.

Thereafter, in appreciation of the highly informative and lucid discourses, the distinguished speakers were presented with commemorative plaques

The morning session was wrapped up with a launch of the 2024 edition of the Journal of Global Medicine (JoGM) published by the IMSG - UK in collaboration with the Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association, Worldwide (ICOMMA WW).

In his remarks, Professor Emmanuel Otolorin (President ICOMMA-WW) who joined Dr. Banji Adeyoju (Immediate past President, IMSG - UK) in unveiling the new edition of JoGM assured the IMSG-UK of the ICOMMA 's continuous partnership.

The evening session which commenced shortly after the Annual General Meeting, ICOMMA - WW.  recorded various presentations from the Undergraduate and Postgraduate members of the University of Ibadan, Medical Students Association (UIMSA) and Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), UCH, Ibadan.
