CELEBRATION OF 5 DECADES OF HAEMATOLOGY RESEARCH, TRAINING & PRACTICE: Cocktail Reception by the Provost in honour of Professor Lucio Luzzatto

This last day ended with a cocktail given by the Provost in honour of Professor Luzzatto and this event was well attended by several distinguished professors who had retired from CoMUI but who had contributed greatly to the development of Haematology and CoMUI.

The Pioneer Provost of CoMUI, Emeritus Professor Oluwole Akande was present at this happy reception as well as several other retired staff such as Professors Esan, Ogunmola, Junaid, and Yetunde Aken’Ova. The CoMUI Management Team as well as Members and Friends of the Department of Haematology graced this occasion.

In his speech at the cocktail, Professor Fola Esan drew the attention of the College Management to the need to expand the Haematology department and most especially the urgent need for more academic and technical staff. He reminded the College Management that the staff strength of the department now was exactly what it was in the 70s. There had been no increase to cater to the increasing demands in the areas of teaching, research and service. He also noted with much concern that the infrastructure had remained basically the same.

The Provost presented a gift to Professor Luzzatto on behalf of the Management of CoMUI and there were goodwill speeches, reminiscences and dancing.

The Head of Haematology acknowledges the support in cash and kind for this event from members of staff of Haematology, the Office of the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, the Management of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and University College Hospital, Ibadan, the Centre for African Newborn Health and Nutrition and Pharmaceutical companies (Sanofi, Bayer, Synlab, Servier and Fidson).
