The Department of Paediatrics, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria is pleased to announce the celebration of its Diamond Jubilee. A series of events have been outlined to celebrate her 60 years of excellence in clinical practice, teaching, training, and research. The Department in its first 3 decades, produced 3 of every 5 Paediatricians trained in Nigeria and the West African sub-region. The Department also stands out as one of the leading Departments in the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Ibadan as it is ever so often voted by the University of Ibadan Medical Students Association as the Best Department and its staff as the Best Lecturers.
The Department has produced excellent Paediatricians and Clinicians who are making waves and impacting the world!
The celebration started on 13 December with an evening of Praise and Thanksgiving which featured presentations by some of our notable alumni - Dr. Modupe Sokunbi, Dr. Folasade Kehinde (Nee Sangosanya), Dr. Debo Adeyemo, Prof. Bukola Nafiu and Prof. Rasheed Gbadegesin.
Day II of the celebration on the 14th December features a community outreach to enlighten the public on common childhood illnesses, their preventive strategies, potential dangers and complications and how to access appropriate care as well as the simple interventions available for promoting the health of infants, children and adolescents. Staff of the Department, across several disciplines of healthcare, including nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dieticians, administrative staff embarked on visits to several underserved communities in the Ibadan metropolis.
The celebrations will round off on 15 December with a symposium to be held at the Paul Hendrickse Lecture Theatre. The Chairman of the occasion is Dr. Abib Olamitoye, the Guest Lecturer, Prof. S.I. Omokhodion, the Royal Father of the Day, His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba (Dr.) Senator M. Olalekan Ishola Balogun, the Mother of the Day, Mrs. Victoria Samson. The Special Guest at the Symposium is the Honourable Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muhammed Ali Pate.
