Additionally, I teach Medical Microbiology to students on the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science programme. I have also been involved as a facilitator at the yearly Medical Microbiology and Parasitology Department courses on sexually transmitted infections as well as surveillance, prevention and control of hospital infection. I teach Medical Microbiology to Masters Students on the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Programme (FELTP). I am also involved in assessment and supervision of their Master’s Dissertation. I also teach Postgraduate Resident Doctors in the Department of Medical Microbiology and I have supervised two Part 2 Dissertation projects of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. University of Surrey, UK (2013-2016) As a student demonstrator for undergraduate practical sessions. I supervised and assisted undergraduate students on the Biomedical Bacteriology, Molecular biology and Immunology modules. This typically involves about 80 contact hours per year. My duties include assisting students in carrying out their laboratory exercises and grading their manuscripts, and I have received positive feedback from the students and Lecturers in charge of the modules. I co-supervised the laboratory project of an undergraduate student in Veterinary virology. |

Investigating ribosomal regulation of gene expression by Kaposi’s sarcoma herpes virus. |
In progress 1. Fowotade, A. Molecular Epidemiology of Hepatitis E among pregnant women in Ibadan, Nigeria. This is an ongoing research to assess the burden of Hepatitis E among pregnant women in Ibadan, Nigeria. Ethical consent has been sought and obtained from Oyo state and specimen collection is ongoing. 2. Fowotade, A., Olusanya, O.O., Yakubu, M. Seroprevalence and serotypes of Human papilloma virus among patients with Genital warts attending STC, Ibadan. The aim of this study is to determine the Human papilloma virus serotypes among attendees of our STC with genital warts. This study would help to determine the appropriate vaccine constituent for prevention of genital warts. The draft for Ethical approval is currently being written up for submission. 3. Olaopa, E.O., Balogun, T., Malomo, T., Adebayo, S.A., Fowotade, A. Incidence of UTI and the urodynamic patterns in spinal cord injury in Ibadan. The study was designed to determine the urodynamic pattern after resolution of spinal shock. The ethical approval has been sought and approved. Patient recruitment is currently ongoing. 4. King, H.A., El-Sharif, H.F., Matia-Gonalez, A.M., Iadevaia, V., Fowotade, A., Reddy, S.M. and Gerber, A.P. Generation of ribosome imprinted polymers for sensitive detection of translational responses. This project currently being carried out at the University of Surrey, is meant to generate the use of “smart materials” namely molecularly imprinted polymers to facilitate the isolation of ribosomes and translated mRNAs from cells. The research is currently at an advanced stage and might potentially identify novel means for sensitive detection of gene regulation. |
