She was an Honourary Research Associate (Visiting postdoc academic) at University of Warwick Medical School in 2025. She taught a global mental health promotion course in the global health module. She also undertook her CARTA postdoc fellowship. (stress management interventions for Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA): An umbrella review at the University of Warwick.

She has more than eighteen years’ experience in professional work, teaching, and research work. Her PhD research focused on health education components of maternal childcare. She found from situation analysis that the mental health component of the antenatal health education was missing, and she fixed this problem. She explored the local perception of maternal depression to design health educational curriculum and maternal depression educational materials that could influence the health belief of maternal child health users and significant others. She used the developed material to train Primary Healthcare workers to provide explicit maternal mental health inclusive health education. She gained the skill in need assessment, training methods, cross cultural consideration in research, behaviour change communication, designing of communication materials, content validation, health service research, implementation research, community research, quantitative, qualitative, and mixed method research. Since the completion of her PhD, she progressively answers more questions in research as she secured a research active environment by obtaining a lecturer position in the Department of Health Promotion and Education, Faculty of Public Health, University of Ibadan. There she teaches core health promotion courses. She continues her research work in collaboration with other researchers, she supervises master and PhD students, and she carries out administrative work.

Ongoing research

  1. Consortium for Advanced Research and Training in Africa (CARTA). Postdoc fellowship: Effectiveness of Stress Management Interventions for Adolescents and Young Adults (AYA): An Umbrella Review

Globally, stress has been found to be a significant and costly risk factor to the burden of diseases.  Adolescents and young adults (AYA), 10-24 years are biologically and environmentally vulnerable to it, with their mental health highly at risk. Meanwhile, there are substantial digital and non-digital interventions that address stress among them in different settings, but what intervention is effective on the digital and non-digital platform, in the high-income countries and low and middle income countries needs to be summarized for handy information, further research, healthcare intervention and policy review.

Ongoing Research collaboration: Co-Investigator

1.TETFUND- Development of stress management model for Nigeria police force

Policing is a stressful occupation. Police officers are exposed to stressors that are inherent in the organization and operations of law enforcement. Similar to their counterparts around the world, many Nigeria police officers are exposed to high levels of stress, making them vulnerable to stress-related mental health conditions and other noncommunicable diseases. Despite these risks and their consequences to the health and safety of police officers and the larger society, interventions are currently not available to address this challenge in Nigeria. This pilot study aims to assess the burden of stress from a national sample of police officers and test the feasibility of an intervention for stress prevention, management, and coping mechanisms among police officers in Nigeria. This is a three-phase study: (1) a needs assessment and situational analysis using a convergent parallel, mixed-methods approach to determine the prevalence of stress and mental health burden among 1200 police officers in four randomly selected states in four geopolitical zones of the country, (2) the development of a peer-led intervention for stress prevention, management, and coping mechanism which will be tested using a cluster randomized trial among 200 police officers, and (3) the preliminary evaluation of the intervention based on knowledge about stress management and mental disorders and psychological distress and reduction in stress levels. These measures will be obtained at baseline (T0), immediate (T1), and 6-month post-intervention (T2). Feasibility will be determined based on enrollment rate, attendance, and completion of the group sessions. Multivariable linear regression models taking into account clustering effects will be used to estimate between-group differences in outcome measures. Findings from the study will inform policy review and the development of a pragmatic intervention on stress prevention and management among police officers. This will enhance the policing role of officers, thus contributing to the safety of the communities they serve. PACTR Registry: PACTR202310474721238.
