Biography:
I, Dr. Beatrice Mgboro Ohaeri, am a professional nurse with a PhD, in Adult Health Nursing. I am an Associate Professor and Acting Head, in the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, University of Ibadan. I believe that success in life is achieved by aiming high and working hard to meet that aspiration. As a highly motivated and passionate nurse within the academic sector, I have proven track records of excellent academic performance in facing various nursing exigencies, locally and internationally. For instance, I received awardsfor the following: the best graduating student at B.Sc. level, best PhD post- graduate dissertation at the faculty in the year 2009 and outstanding research, at the abstract presentation of the College of Medicine, Research Innovation Management, 2016. Other awards include Aortic African Cancer Leaders Institute (ACLI) and Vice President Nursing ( AORTIC), 2021. This unbroken academic record equally reflects in my current job in the Department of Nursing, where I take several challenges in lecturing, supervising and mentoring students at undergraduate and post graduate levels.I have published seventy (70) papers in peer reviewed journals.
My research foci and interests are on psycho-oncology, women’s health and nursing education. Psycho-oncology involves assessing and designing psychosocial nursing interventions that will enhance the coping abilities of cancer clients, especially women living with breast and cervical cancers, to improve their quality of life. Nursing education is focused on improving the academic performance of nursing students, while Women’s health is largely centered on prevention issues. This interest in psycho-oncology was demonstrated while on an international assignment and participated in initiating and developing a psycho-oncology unit attached to a cancer hospital. Furthermore, I have been principal investigator in projects that studied the impact of psycho-education in adjustment of breast and cervical cancer clients. I have collaborated in studies that investigated reasons for non-adherence to HPV vaccine and ways of combating them.
Currently, I am interested in working on COVID 19’s impact, and on responses, management and outcomes of non-communicable diseases. The need to build capacity in post- graduate nursing education in cancer is also a strong area of interest. Equally my desire for research, is on the effect of governance on higher education in middle and low resource countries.
My international exposure led to acquisition of knowledge and skills that have been useful in managing staff, students, clients and research activities, irrespective of the culture and other environmental factors. Recently, I underwent trainings in research methods and cancer genetic counselling, to build my skills for successful grant applications, that will really enhance translational research and technologically advanced teaching and learning methods.

Other Interests/Hobbies
Aside the academic interests, another aspect of my life that is highly impactful, is my engagement in nutritional enhancement of the less privileged. I have been doing this for over three decades but the climax was during the COVID 19, lock- down. This is done through visiting institutions for the less privileged, the homeless, churches, and individual homes. In fact, a food bank has been set up in a religious setting where about 500 families are attended to monthly/ bimonthly, depending on financial capability. Good nutrition improves immunity, reduces risk for diseases, improves well-being and productivity. Collaborators are needed for research and funding the project.
Another area of life that gives me joy is worshipping God and serving in various church activities.
So I enjoy singing, praising, dancing, reading , religious books and praying.
