Area of Specialization

Majority (70%) of Kolawole‟s publications are in the field of Safety and quality of healthcare under Nursing Administration, Leadership and Management. Issues surrounding quality of healthcare has been her research focus with emphasis on patient-centred care, healthy work environment, mentorship, patient-engagement, and discharge. Research that will provide solution to the menace of preventable negative healthcare outcomes is of utmost interest to me. Her major contribution to knowledge is in the area of creating awareness about the need for quality healthcare as it could be measured through the structure, process and outcomes of care. Her current research work showed that structured discharge planning practices, policies and procedures are lacking in the clinical settings. Hence, the need for a current educational intervention to optimize patients‟ discharge process among nurses. The study is providing training for nurses in the medical wards of tertiary teaching hospitals on how they can coordinate and plan patients‟ discharge right from the point of admission till post-discharge period. This study intends to improve knowledge, and practice of discharge planning among nurses and consequently reduce the preventable post-discharge adverse events (such as, frequent readmission, medication errors, difficulty in following discharge instruction) in patients. In addition, she is conducting a study to see how educational intervention will improve patients‟ engagement in their care. She has already ventured into researches on patient advocacy, surgical nursing, COVID-19, care of the aged and oncology nursing care respectively.
