Biography

Experienced researcher and university lecturer of over 10 years in Human Nutrition. Her vast and unique cross-functional experience and knowledge spans from research and development to promotion of traditional foods for improving micronutrient intake of women of reproductive age and young children. She has been involved in public health nutrition research and intervention programmes at various levels. Her work currently focusses on linking nutrition, agriculture and health using garden-based nutrition education to promote improvement of school-age children’s nutrition and health through an ecological approach.
She has cognate experience in designing and implementing behavioural change nutrition education targeting school-age children and their families. She is involved in research using of garden-based nutrition education in influencing behavioural change in children’s eating habits to improve their nutrition and health. Her research team have developed a curriculum that adequately links gardening, nutrition education, and food demonstration, which can be extended to Nigeria’s primary school curriculum. Further to examine the extent to which micronutrient gap can be bridged among school-age children through vegetable gardens at school and home.
She has a track record in leadership capacity development and management; for the past six years, she has successfully initiated and coordinated Kids Nutri-garden™ Vacation School in the Dept of Human Nutrition and Dietetics (based on my research activities). It is an innovative hands-on garden-to-fork food system transformation programme for school-age children and their families. The programme has collaborated with six private primary schools and reached at least five hundred school-age children. She has trained and engaged at least fifty (50) youths to play administrative and technical roles in the garden-to-fork activities of the vacation school.
Through these activities, she has acquired skills and networks to effectively plan, conduct, facilitate, monitor and evaluate inter-disciplinary and multi-sectoral projects in nutrition and related development projects. She is very tenacious, and resourceful and she has excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills among others.
