Biography:

Dr Abayomi Mayowa Ajayi studied Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and had both M.Sc and PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Ibadan. He was at some point an assistant lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology, Kampala International University-Western Campus, Uganda. There he spent six years training medical and pharmacy students from the East African region. His doctoral research under the supervision of Professor George Ademowo focused on the Pharmacological activity of Ocimum gratissimum leaf, an economically viable multipurpose herbaceous plant with longstanding successful use in ethnomedicine.

Presently, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of Ibadan.  A research scientist who is committed to research excellence and the attainment of quality knowledge in the life sciences. My long term research interest involve using new tools to understand how indigenous fruits, spices and herbs promote health and well-being for all at all ages. I have been involved in investigating how extracts or bioactive compounds prevent and or ameliorates behavioural derangement and underlying oxido-inflammatory processes as a result of repeated exposure to stress, chemical toxicants, high fat diet and malaria infection. The aim is to generate knowledge and provide basis for the uptake of such bio-functional extracts or compounds as sources for developing new nutraceuticals or herbal medicinal products.
