 Biography:

Dr Olayinka Ogunbode is 1988 alumni of Federal Government College, Ogbomoso, Nigeria and graduated from the Medical School of the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria in June 1995. He had his internship training and postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria.

He is presently a Reader/honorary consultant in Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University of Ibadan/ University College Hospital, Ibadan. He holds a Master’s degree in Population and Reproductive Health (MHS) from the University of Ibadan. He is a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), Fellow of the Medical College of Obstetrician and Gynaecologist (FMCOG) and Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM).

Over the years he has gathered international experience. He holds the American Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (E.C.F.M.G) certificate, a Diploma in Reproductive Health from developing countries certificate from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine) and clinical observership experiences in Southport and Ormskirk District Hospital NHS trust, St Georges Hospital, NHS trust in the United Kingdom. He had short term trainings in Endoscopic surgery in Durban, South Africa (2009), and in Advanced Reproductive Technology at the Center for Reproductive Medicine, University of Warwick, Coventry, United Kingdom.

He has served in various capacities in the Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria, UCH Ibadan branch, Oyo State Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) of Nigeria. Dr Ogunbode is a former secretary of the Western sector of the Society of Gynaecologist and Obstetrician of Nigeria (SOGON) and former chairman of the Ibadan Chapter of FEGOCOOSA. He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Western sector of the Society of Gynaecologist and Obstetrician of Nigeria (SOGON) and a member of the Council of SOGON for the past nine years. He was the secretary of the local organizing committee of the 11th Annual Scientific Conference and All Fellows Congress (ASCAF) of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria which held in August 2016 at the International Conference Center, University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

He is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, research, workshops and has over sixty-five scientific publications in peer reviewed journals. He loves driving, gisting, sports, board games and participating in charitable works.

Research

a. Current Research and Capacity Building Projects including Grants

1. Epidemiologic and Biochemical Profile of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in an African Population. The study aims to evaluate anthropometric and biochemical associations with polycystic ovarian morphology identified on transvaginal ultrasound scans. I am a co-investigator. This is a Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Grant Award.

2. Use of parenteral pentazocine/piroxicam combination versus parenteral acetaminophen /piroxicam for post-caesarean section analgesia: a randomized controlled trial. This study is designed to compare the analgesic efficacy of parenteral Pentazocine/Piroxicam combination versus Parenteral Acetaminophen/Piroxicam in the first 24hours post-caesarean section. I am a co-investigator in this study. This study is self-sponsored.

3. Outcome of skin wound closure using tissue adhesives versus subcuticular absorbable sutures at elective caesarean section: Randomized controlled trial. This study is aimed to determine the patients’ satisfaction and cosmetic outcome of wound closure technique using tissue adhesives compared with subcuticular absorbable suture at discharge and at 6 weeks post operation. I am a co-investigator in this study. This study is self-sponsored.

b. Completed Research

1. Low back pain among women attending post-natal clinic in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, University College Hospital, Ibadan. This study was self-sponsored. The manuscript is being written up for submission for publication.

2. Outcome of threatened miscarriages in a faith-based secondary health care facility in Ibadan -A 6-year review. This study was self-sponsored. The data has been entered into the computer software and analysed. The manuscript is being written up for submission to a reputable journal for consideration for publication.

3. Sexual patterns and practices among undergraduate students. This study was presented at the 3rd annual joint ISSM/SMSA scientific meeting which held in Miami, Florida, USA, from October 27-30, 2023, and published as a conference proceeding in the Journal of Sexual Medicine (2023). This study was self-sponsored. The study being written up for submission to a reputable journal for consideration for publication.

4. Urinary incontinence during pregnancy in Ibadan, Nigeria. This study has been completed and it is in the process of data entry. This study was self-sponsored. I am a co-investigator in this study.

5. Asymptomatic reproductive tract infections in infertile couples and IVF outcomes in Ibadan. This study was done among infertile couples undergoing IVF at a specialist fertility center in Ibadan. It has been successfully defended as part of the requirement for the Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. This study was self-sponsored. I am a co-investigator in the study and the manuscript is presently being written.
