Title

Role

Indoor building characteristics and molecular profiling of bioaerosols as predictor of respiratory morbidities among primary school children in Ibadan, Nigeria.

This is an ongoing study that started in year 2014. It was designed to determine indoor building characteristics and molecular profiling of bioaerosols as predictor of respiratory morbidities among primary school children in Ibadan. Indoor air quality has become an important issue of discussion since recent increase in attendance rate of children at elementary schools. Biological particles or bioaerosols forms part of the total mix of indoor air. For effective monitoring and analysis of bioaerosols, appropriate techniques for detection of airborne microbes in indoor air must be selected. Improved methods of detection promise greater clarity in knowing the effect on human health of individual microbial species present in indoor environment.

Principal investigator

Health risk assessment of airborne pollutants in fine particulate matter in an urban area.

This study started in the year 2015. It is aimed at assessing the health risk of human exposure to the chemical and biological fractions of airborne pollutants in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in an industrial area. Ambient air contains particulate matter of varied sizes and compositions. Having an understanding of the chemical and biological composition of particulate matter is of public health importance and fundamental in knowing which of its fractions drives the association between exposure and adverse health outcomes.
