Study of food safety and hygiene practices in institutions and communities My on-going researches in food safety and hygiene focus on school health and were started in 2015. These include hygiene practices of food vendors and safety of food consumed by students in selected secondary schools in the Southern and Western part of Nigeria. These studies are exploratory in nature with the aim of documenting the health and environmental risks associated with food sold in the schools to students. These studies are meant to contribute to policy formulation in the area of food safety and hygiene in Nigeria schools. Another area of focus is the processing of food to reduce heavy metal contents for safe consumption. |

Solid waste management using modern and appropriate waste management technology My researches that are in progress in the area of solid waste management focus on modern and appropriate waste management technology. The researches were started in 2015. These include assessment of waste scavengers’ practices and the risks associated with their vocation in Southern Nigeria. This study is exploratory in nature that is geared towards documenting the health and environmental risks associated with waste scavenging. The results of this study shall be useful in environmental health education with a view to promoting sanitation and personal hygiene among the waste scavengers. Another area of focus is on the utilization of organic waste to produce activated carbon and its use as medium for adsorption of heavy metals from industrial effluents, including its use for cartridge refill. The aim of the study is to address the perennial problems of associated heavy metals in effluents and wastewater using organic waste material that constitute nuisance to our environment if not properly disposed. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Novel approach to management of laboratory liquid waste My on-going researches in laboratory liquid waste which started in 2017 focus on novel approach to solving the challenges. Various fundamental concepts such as neutralization, encapsulation, adsorption, sublimation etc are used. A technology for treatment of the laboratory waste using local materials is on-going. These studies are exploratory in design. The expected outcomes of these researches include the need to treat laboratory liquid waste to acceptable limits before discharging into the recipient environment. |

Dietary access and intake of People Living With HIV / AIDS using photo-voice My on-going research focuses on a social environment study geared towards assessing the nutritional intake of people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, using photo-voice. The study is geared towards generating data on the effectiveness of dietary intake models adopted for the study and to improve the public health status of the studied population. This research started 2014. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Assessment of Health and Safety indicators in schools and other workplaces My on-going research focuses on safety in schools and it started 2015. This study is geared towards evaluating unsafe conditions/act and prevalence of accidents in the school environment. The outcome will be useful in the formulation of school policies. Other area of interest is safety practices in workplace. Safety in medium and small scale industries are currently the areas of interests with a view to contributing to the promotion of good and safe work practices. |

Preservative Effects of Extracts from Selected Fruit Peels and Seeds on Fresh Tomatoes The research focuses on determining the preservative effects of extracts from selected fruit peels and seeds (Orange, Avocado, Pawpaw, banana and pineapple) on fresh tomatoes. This research started in 2016. The study design involved a randomized experimental design in which extracts will be obtained through cold extraction method with methanol, chloroform and petroleum ether solvents. Treatment and control groups will be subjected to minimum of 20 days observation of the presence of spoilage organisms. The efficacy of the extracts shall be tested and validated. The outcome of this study will be useful in the preservation of tomatoes that are fast perishable foods. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Development of technology for the preservation of fruits and vegetables My on-going research focuses on preservation of fruits and vegetables and it started in 2017. The research focuses on the design and fabrication of device for the preservation of fruits and vegetables. Heat exchange principle governed the development of the device. Up-cycling of waste refrigerator was used to obtain a dual purpose research focus. The study design involved a randomized experimental design in which the fruits and vegetables are stored in the fabricated device for a period of time and a control set up to measure the preservative potential of the device. The outcome of this study will be useful for the preservation of vegetables and fruits that are perishable foods |

Development of Detox Pellets from Cassava Residues Impregnated with Extracts from Selected Plants for the Removal of Toxic Metals in Animal Model This is an on-going research that started in 2017. The research focuses on the design and fabrication of Pelletizer and also producing extracts from selected plants with detoxification properties. The primary focus is to develop a pellet that will be used as feed and detoxifier, specifically for the removal of heavy metals from small ruminants and fishes. The research is exploratory in nature. It will involve formulation of the feed as pellets impregnated with detox from the plant extracts. It will largely involve laboratory analysis. The outcome of this study will be useful in the detoxification of ruminants and fishes that ingested heavy metals and other contaminants from feeds. 1. Project, Dissertation and Thesis: 2.
