A letter of commendation has been received by the Coordinator of Ibadan National Polio Laboratory(Ibadan NPL), Department of Virology, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.
This is in acknowledgement and appreciation of their exceptional contribution to the polio eradication programme in Nigeria.
The Ibadan NPL team was contacted for assistance with analysing Polio samples from 10 States of the federation which were earlier covered by Maiduguri NPL which was put out of operation by the flood of 9 September 2024. This was in addition to the regular samples the laboratory normally handles and in essence, the samples for the whole country. Between September -December 2024, the Ibadan NPL took over with all sense of responsibility, the increased workload with the huge number of samples. It is important to note that as a result of their efforts, the country was still able to maintain the expected laboratory indicators. This feat is a testimony to the dedication, hardwork, commitment and sacrifice of the staff of the Ibadan NPL.
The letter of commendation which was written on behalf of the Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency(NPHCDA), Dr Muyi Aina was signed by Dr. Usman Gana Abdulkadir, the Incident Manager (NEOC).
The Provost, CoMUI, Professor T.O. Ogundiran, FAS, salutes these worthy ambassadors for their display of dexterity. The Acting Head of Department, Dr. Adedayo. O. Faneye in her response, observed that the spirit of collaboration and team -spiritedness of the staff of the laboratory made this feat possible. She opined that this underscores the Laboratory’s commitment to excellent service delivery and the University’s strong dedication to health development. She then used the opportunity to acknowledge the support the Department has hitherto enjoyed from the CoMUI management and further appealed for continued assistance and backing to enable the unit function optimally.
