NEW YEAR, SAME GOD

The first College Prays and Praise for 2026 took place on Monday, January 5, at the A.O.K Johnson Board Room.

It was a celebration of God’s unchanging grace and mercy as we bade the old year farewell and welcomed the new.

In his exhortation titled “Every Valley Shall Be Exalted” (Isaiah 40:4), the Leader of the College Chaplaincy, Emeritus Professor S. I. Omokhodion, delivered a message of hope, assurance, and promise of divine intervention.

He emphasized that God can level every valley and make every crooked path straight.

The programme also featured prayers for Nigeria, the University of Ibadan (UI), the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (COMUI), and the University College Hospital (UCH).

The prayer session as led by Professor A. A. Adebayo was soul-lifting.

While wishing participants at the hybrid event a blessed new year, Professor T. O. Ogundiran, FAS, Provost of COMUI, thanked all members of management and staff for their combined efforts in moving COMUI forward in past years.

He reiterated the aphorism, "New Year,Same God".

This saying which has been credited to different sources is often intepreted to mean that even as the years come and go, God remains constant in His power, faithfulness and dependability.

He left the staff with three charges to encourage them to be better stewards in the new year.First, he reminded them that times and seasons may change, but God remains the same; second, he encouraged everyone to navigate the year with conscientiousness; and finally, he advised them to always check their attitudes against what a Christlike option would be when facing strifes, challenges, and tough decisions.

College Prays and Praise takes place every first working day of the month at 8am in A.O.K Johnson Boardroom. You are invited to the next edition.
