Biography: Oyeninhun Abimbola OLUWATOSIN, RN, RM, MSc. Ph.D. (Ibadan) DOHS (McMaster) FUICC. Prof Oluwatosin started her nursing career with Registered Nursing training at the prestigious School of Nursing. University College Hospital, Ibadan 1975-1978. Worked briefly at the Lagos University teaching hospital (LUTH) Idi Araba and then proceeded for her Midwifery training at School of Midwifery, Catholic hospital, Lantoro, Abeokuta. She completed BSc Nursing (Education) with second class Upper grade from the University of Ibadan in 1984. During NYSC, worked as a lecturer at the school of hygiene, Eleyele (1985). Post Youth Service, worked briefly at Alafia Hospital, Mokola Ibadan till 1987. She combined full time children care with part time nursing practice at the following hospitals in England: 1. Locum Staff Nurse; Alder Hey Children’s Hospital Liverpool, England 1988- 1991 2. Locum Staff Nurse: Liverpool Royal Infirmary, Merseyside, England 1988-1991 3. Full Time Staff Nurse: George Elliot Hospital, Nuneaton, England 1988, 1991-1992 Had her MSc (1995) and Ph.D. (2005) Nursing at the University of Ibadan. She took up appointment as Assistant lecturer at the Department of Nursing University of Ibadan in January 1996 and rose through the rank to be appointed a Professor of Nursing in 2014. She was Ag head of The Department of Nursing 2008-2010, during this period the proposal for a Faculty of Nursing was processed, however due to lack of adequate categories of staff, it did not materialise. However the Department commenced running three effective units and subsequently four effective specialty units. During her Sabbatical at the University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED) Ondo she was appointed as the Pioneer Ag Dean of the Faculty of Nursing Science of the University, she was able to establish the structure for running an effective Faculty of Nursing Science with four Departments during the seven months she served before returning to the University of Ibadan. Prof Abimbola Oluwatosin a nurse leader of repute, an Alumni of the ICN GNLI (2015), VP, Nursing representative at the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) council, for two terms (2013-2017). A recipient of UICC (International Union Against Cancer) International Oncology Nursing Fellowship (IONF) award 1999 – MD Anderson Cancer Centre, Houston, Texas, USA. Area Of Specialization Abimbola is a Community Health Nursing Specialist. She teaches Community Health Nursing, Family Health Nursing, Health promotion, and health maintenance, research, and Maternal and Child Health Nursing courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Currently heads the Community Health Nursing unit at the Department of Nursing, under her leadership the unit has made impacts on community development in a community close to the University of Ibadan. Her research focus is Women’s health with emphasis on early detection of breast and cervical cancers, especially among women in rural communities. Research on health issues among women and children are also areas of interest. Majority > 60% of her publication covers these areas. She developed a culture-based intervention program that brought about significant improvement in the level of knowledge and practice of self-breast examination and breast awareness among rural women.
