The Co-Chairs, Secretary and Project Advisor of the Student Hostel Building Committee, the Management of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan Hold On-Site Meeting with Consultants & Contractors

In a concerted effort to ensure the timely completion and quality of the ongoing Student Hostel Building Project, the Co-Chairs, Secretary and Project Advisor of the Student Hostel Building Committee and the Provost of the College of Medicine, held an on-site meeting with consultants and contractors. The meeting served as a focal platform to assess the progress of construction and address pertinent issues affecting the project's timeline and standards.

During the meeting, which was held on Thursday, 25th April 2024, a comprehensive inspection of the construction site was conducted, with the client, consultants, and contractors collectively evaluating the work across the premises.

Discussion Points

The meeting agenda encompassed various crucial aspects, including:

  1.  Reviewing the minutes of the previous meeting and addressing concerns raised therein, particularly regarding the need for contractors to improve on the pace of work. Assurance was sought from the concerned parties to expedite the project's progress.
  2. Scrutinizing the expenditures related to advance payments made to contractors, with specific emphasis on transparency and accountability. Contractors were urged to furnish receipts for expenditures and provide samples of materials procured.
  3. Emphasizing the significance a detailed programme of works by all contractors to facilitate effective monitoring and ensure adherence to project timelines.
  4. Consultants reiterated the importance of contractors strictly adhering to provided specifications to maintain the desired quality standards.
  5. The leadership of the Building Committee emphasized the need for contractors to demonstrate heightened commitment towards expediting project delivery within the stipulated timeframe.

After exhaustive deliberations, the meeting was adjourned with a resolve to reconvene for further discussions in the upcoming month of May.

In her feedback to the consultants and contractors, the Provost, explained the significance of the on-site meeting. She believed that the meeting exemplified the proactive approach adopted by the leadership of the Building Committee in ensuring the smooth progress of the student hostel building project. “Through collaborative efforts and a shared commitment to excellence, our aim is to realize the project's objectives efficiently and effectively,” she added.

Indeed, all leaders and members of the Building Committee and invested stakeholders remain steadfast in their dedication to overseeing the successful completion and running of the student hostel building, prioritizing efficiency, and adherence to quality benchmarks.
