616TH INAUGURAL LECTURE, UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN, BY PROFESSOR ADURAGBENRO DEBORAH A. ADEDAPO
Aduragbenro Adedapo is a Professor of Pharmacology and Therapeutics with over 20 years’ experience in clinical pharmacology, pharmacoepidemiology, drug safety, and cardiovascular research. She combines clinical practice, teaching, and research across Morgan State University, USA, University of Ibadan, and University College Hospital, Ibadan with expertise in antihypertensive drug utilization, cardiovascular pharmacology, adverse drug reaction monitoring, and malaria treatment.
Born on 7th September 1965 Professor Adedapo’s primary, secondary and advanced level education were at Ibadan City Council (ICC), Oke-Ado, Saint Anne’s School, Molete, Ibadan, and Federal Government College, Odogbolu, respectively. She read Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ibadan between 1982 and 1988, followed with residency training in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology from September 1992. She was appointed an Associate Lecturer in the Medicine Department and later Lecturer I in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. She served as a consultant to the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board before she secured a lecturer position in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, University of Ibadan in June 2006. She rose through the ranks to become a Professor on October 1, 2020. She served as Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, UCH, from 1st April 2019 to 2022. She was a TETFUND scholar at Morgan State University in the United States from August 2021 to January 2026.
Professor Aduragbenro Adedapo has served as external examiner for Pharmacology at the University of Benin, Benin, Nigeria, and visiting professor at Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria. She is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology and the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology. She is also an examiner for the West African College of Physicians and a reviewer for several scientific journals.
She has traveled widely for conferences, delivered many paper presentations, and has published in many highly reputable journals. She graduated with a DrPH in May 2026 from Morgan State University, with her dissertation examining the moderating role of body mass index in the relationship between vaping and hypertension among adolescents and young adults in the United States of America. She is married to Professor KS Adedapo, and they are blessed with three children.
