RESEARCH SUPPORTS

I am involved at present with others in the team in the following research areas:

1.    MALARIA IN PREGNANCY STUDY

COMPARISON OF THE SAFETY, EFFECTIVENESS AND TOLERABILITY OF   ARTEMETHER-LUMEFANTRINE AND ARTESUNATE AMODIAQUINE IN NIGERIAN PREGNANT WOMEN.

We are currently carrying out a study to compare the safety and efficacy of artemether lumefantrin and artesunate amodiaquine in pregnant Nigerian women suffering from acute, uncomplicated falciparum malaria. Support from Senate Research Grant.

2.    HIV/AIDS CONTROL AND PREVENTION NETWORKS

THE EFFECT OF PREGNANCY ON REFERENCE VALUES OF CD4 + COUNT LYMPHOCYTES IN HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS NEGATIVE NIGERIAN PREGNANT WOMEN.

We are currently conducting a study to describe CD4+ cell reference ranges from HIV negative pregnant Nigerian women and determining factors. Its being carried out in the antenatal clinic of the UCH, Ibadan and Adeoyo Maternity Hospital, Yemetu.

3.    HIV Status and Achieving Fertility Desires

We are currently conducting a study in Nigeria and Zambia to help individuals and couples in African countries facing generalized HIV epidemics to achieve their family size goals and prevent unintended pregnancies while avoiding or coping with HIV infection.

This is being supported by Guttmacher Institute of USA.

4.    Revisiting the incidence of unsafe abortion in Nigeria

This is being supported by Guttmacher Institute of USA.

a.    Abortion incidence

The study is designed to provide information that will help fill in current gaps in knowledge of the current level of induced abortion in Nigeria.

b.    Maternal near miss due to abortion

The goal of this study is to contribute to efforts to promote women’s health and survival by improving understanding of maternal near miss event, its prevalence, causes, and consequences in Nigeria.
