- African Neurobiobank for Precision Medicine ELSI Project
Title: African Neurobiobank for Precision Stroke Medicine - Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) Project
Funder: NIH
Brief Summary: The overarching goal of the African Neurobiobank for Precision Stroke Medicine - Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) Project is to identify, examine and develop novel approaches to address ELSI issues of stroke biobanking and genomics in Sub-Saharan Africa. Community-based participatory mixed methods research (CBPR) approach is being used to collect relevant dataset from the various levels of the social ecological model (SEM) to identify and examine relevant ELSI issues related to stroke biobanking and genomics. Emergent knowledge products will be synthesized and develop contextual intervention tools, platforms and practices that can enhance community understanding and participation in stroke biobanking and genomics research activities in a way that will facilitate enduring trust, and equitable and fair utilization of biobanking resources for genetic and trans-omics research.
