Researches
RESEARCH
My area of research interest includes neuroendocrine tumours particularly with regard to the prognostic importance of neuroendocrine cells in carcinogenesis. I am also interested in the relationship of neuroendocrine tumour cells with tumour stem cells and the importance of the neuroendocrine cells in tumour survival. The effect of these two populations of cells in tumours of the central nervous system is particularly of interest. My interest also includes breast cancer, a disease which is showing a high mortality in our environment. I am particularly interested in the prognostic effect of neuroendocrine cells in breast tumours. This has previously been discarded as not of much consequence in the pathophysiology of breast tumours but considering that it is largely controlled by pituitary and steroid hormones from the ovary, it is quite likely that the peptides from the pituitary may also play a role in the carcinogenesis of tumours of the breast. |
