Biography:

Dr Yewande O. Babalola graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 2000. She subsequently had her internship at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. She participated in the mandatory National Youth Service Scheme and was posted to the Jericho Nursing Home, Jericho, Ibadan. Her postgraduate residency training in Ophthalmology was at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. She obtained the fellowship of both the West African College of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. She undertook a short-term fellowship in Medical retina at the Retinal foundation hospital, Ahmedabad, India in 2014. Subsequently, she completed a long-term fellowship in Retina & Vitreous at the prestigious LV Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneshwar, India in 2018.

She is a dedicated teacher who is passionate about passing knowledge to the next generation of doctors, ophthalmologists and vitreoretinal surgeons. In her clinical practice, she is a committed and conscientious physician striving to give the very best outcomes to her patients. She is inspired to provide evidence-based medicine relating to vitreoretinal care in our peculiar African populace. Her research interests include global eye health, inherited retinal diseases (IRD) and infectious and inflammatory diseases of the eye. Yewande is currently a NIH/Fogarty global health fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan school of Public Health.

She lectures in Ophthalmology at the University of Ibadan and is a consultant ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon to the University College Hospital, Ibadan. Her area of sub-specialization is Retina and vitreous/vitreoretinal surgery.

1. Prevalence of diabetic retinopathy and pattern of ocular disorders in diabetic patients attending a tertiary institution in Ibadan, South West Nigeria.

1. Survey of retinal diseases in Ibadan post subspecialization.

2. Ocular status of HIV/AIDS patients seen at the PEPFAR Antiretroviral clinic, University College Hospital, Ibadan.
