Title: impact of onsite cataract surgery versus base hospital surgery on cataract surgery uptake in 2 Nigerian rural communities.
Funder: Tetfund
Brief Summary: there is a huge backlog of cataract blindness however uptake of cataract surgery has remained poor among many rural communities in Nigeria. Previous experience had shown that out of 50 screened operable cataracts from a rural community in Osun state less than 20% turned up for surgery at the base hospital in Ibadan despite cost of surgery having paid for by a philanthropist. This study aims to determine the effect of bringing the surgery to the community as against transport to the base hospital in Ibadan.
