Researches
My research focus is on surgical diseases of the Gastrointestinal Tract. Out of these disorders, I have a special interest in malignancies of the colon, rectum and anal canal.
Completed: Harnessing archived paraffin blocks of colon and rectal cancer specimens for molecular analysis in the University College Hospital Ibadan. This study is in collaboration with researchers in Vanderbilt University Tennessee to analyze the genetic profile of colorectal cancer in Nigerians using paraffin specimens of biopsied and resected colorectal cancers. Approved by the UI/UCH Ethics Committee; assigned number UI/EC/12/0205.
Ongoing: Plasmacytoma Variant Translocation (PVT1) in the tumourigenesis of colorectal carcinoma in Africans. This is a collaborative study between researchers in College of Medicine University of Ibadan, St Mark’s Hospital London, Hunter College City of New York University, Winship Cancer Institute Emory University School of Medicine Atlanta and Epidemiology Department University of Los Angeles California. This study aims to see if the PVT1 gene, which is known for tumour aggressiveness, is expressed in Nigerian colorectal cancer tissue. Archived paraffin blocks from the pathology department of the UCH Ibadan will be utilized. Approved by the UI/UCH Ethics Committee; assigned number NHREC/05//01/2008a.
